Verm-X Organic Toppers celebrated at top industry awards
Verm-X were so pleased to be awarded the Highly Commended Award in the 'Celebrating Green and Organic' category at the PetQuip Awards 2023 recently, from a very strong field of 23 finalists.
The PetQuip Awards are an annual event that celebrate excellence and innovation within the pet industry and there have been some incredibly notable winners over the years. Last year, PetQuip added a new category to the awards - 'Celebrating Green & Organic' and we knew that our new Organic Dog Topper range was was the perfect candidate for this category.
Verm-X Organic Dog Food Toppers
Our Organic Dog Food Toppers were launched in March 2023 and during the production process we focused extensively on how we could make this exciting new range as environmentally friendly as possible. This included working with growers based no more than 10 miles from our HQ and sourcing an innovative packaging supplier so that we could keep the production process entirely plastic free.
Every product in our range of Organic Dog Food Toppers has met both the Grower and Processor Standards set by the Organic Food Federation, with each product in the range fully certified by the OFF. In September 2022, whilst the Verm-X Organic Dog Food Topper Range was in the product testing phase, we received the news that we were one of the few UK-based pet industry companies that had been awarded B Corp status.
After a comprehensive evaluation process that begun in 2021, B Lab, the not-for-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement, confirmed that Verm-X had met the rigorous social and environmental standards which represent a commitment to company purpose outside of profit. Whilst the B Corp application process looked at our environmental footprint in terms of the energy and water used, carbon offsets and packaging choices, we also had to measure the wider impact of
our products upon the environment. Our raw ingredients have been produced in accordance with standards set by the Organic Farmers & Growers, with whom Verm-X have been working for over a decade.
The importance of organic
These ethical and environmental credentials are qualifications that we know set us apart from other brands. As part of the B Corp promise to prioritise purpose over profit, we have now committed to choosing organic ingredients and products over standard wherever possible. Scientific evidence has proven that organic agriculture results in much greater biodiversity (more birds, bees and animals) and protects the environment through legally binding standards that prevent pollution – whilst banning herbicides and artificial fertilisers. Organic agriculture is also playing an increasingly important role in mitigating climate change – by taking carbon out of the atmosphere and safely locking it away in the soil - at a consistently greater rate than intensive production.
Feedback from the Judges
The PetQuip judges commented on how impressed they were by our commitment to honouring the Green & Organic credentials of our range of Toppers, and were especially complimentary about our branding, too! We were so honoured to find out that we had received the Highly Commended Award in this category and are, as always, grateful to our incredible customers for their support. We included some of the reviews we had received for the Toppers in our Awards application, and we're sure that this will have made a huge difference.
We're so excited to see what's next for this incredible range of all-natural and organic Toppers and are looking forward to making some very interesting announcements next year about the range.
