We're a Certified B Corporation

In August 2022, Verm-X was officially certified as a B Corporation. This means that we are a part of a group of companies that are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

Verm-X customers can now shop with the added confidence of knowing that our business processes have been extensively evaluated and confirmed by the programme's exacting standards. However, a core element of the B Corp process is not just to look at what we already do, but at what we’re planning in the future.

What is a B Corp?

The B in B Corp stands for Benefit. The full title is Benefit Corporation (B Corp). Benefit Corporations are certified by B Lab, a non-profit organisation responsible for the standards and evaluation process. Their goal is to create sustainable businesses that encourage social good while remaining profitable.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of

  • Environment
  • Workers
  • Community
  • Customers
  • Governance

The certification process is extremely thorough. Applicants are required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 and provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices. These cover products, staff engagement, sourcing, energy, water usage and waste, diversity and corporate transparency.

Becoming a B Corp

Environment

The B Corp application process looked at how we could measure the impact of our products upon the environment as well as our environmental footprint in terms of the energy and water we used, our carbon offsets and our packaging.

For the past 20 years, Verm-X has been working to combat the growing problem of anthelmintic resistance. ‘Anthelmintic resistance’ or ‘wormer resistance,’ as it is more commonly known, refers to parasites that have evolved to be no longer affected by pharmaceutical wormers. 

We track all our packaging and use biodegradable and recyclable packaging, including plastic free options, wherever possible.

Moving forwards, we're focusing on removing single use plastics from our delivery process and have committed to using organic ingredients wherever possible to minimise our environmental impact.

90% of our customers have told us that using Verm-X means they have reduced their reliance on pharmaceuticals.

We power our offices with clean, renewable energy and use recycled water and rainwater wherever we can.

Workers

At Verm-X, our team are incredibly important to us. Being a certified B Corporation means we hold ourselves to extremely high standards when it comes to their welfare, well-being and job satisfaction.

All of our employees are paid the Living Wage as a minimum and our team have salaried, annual contracts to ensure job stability.

We also provide the option for employees to undertake qualifications or continue their education, for example, gaining their AMTRA certifications.

Our impact as a B Corp

Community

As a small, rural business, we work hard to have a positive impact on our local community. We recruit employees locally wherever possible and play an active role in local events and infrastructure development. We always prioritise local suppliers, as we recognise the environmental benefits of this too, with over 40 of our inputs coming from within a 20 mile radius.

Verm-X recognise that we also have a role to play as part of a wider community of animal-lovers. To that end, we work with a range of charities who support and promote animal welfare and well-being.

We set annual company targets to donate a percentage of our profits every year and encourage both our employees and our Brand Ambassadors to suggest charity partnerships that are meaningful and relevant to our mission to be kinder to animals, kinder to the planet.

Customers

Our customers and their animals are at the heart of everything we do as a company and we were thrilled that the B Corp certification recignised this.

Our product reviews and feedback remains completely transparent through the use of Feefo, and we have dedicated targets for customer satisfaction.

Verm-X incorporate customer feedback and focus groups into all of our product development while we ensure that we're easy to connect with at all times across a variety of platforms.

Moving forwards, we are focusing on maintaining our excellent customer service record and ensuring that our marketing remains ethical, sustainable and accessible to our valued customers.

Governance

Our mission at Verm-X is to offer trusted herbal supplements that are kinder to animals and kinder to the environment. As a B Corp, our employees understand the environmental issues surrounding the routine use of pharmaceutical products on our animals.

Our social and environmental performance is measured regularly against a set of targets that have been agreed by our Board of Directors; taking into account both customer and employee feedback.

We take our company Code of Ethics very seriously, asking our suppliers and contractors or suppliers to follow the same code as our employees.

Now that we're a certified B Corporation, we've committed to publish an annual impact report that will benchmark our progress against our targets.
